A pregnant woman has shared how she and her husband chose their name Lumi for their son, but his brother took the name after he and his wife gave birth weeks before his due date
The furious woman said she was 34 weeks pregnant and chose the unusual name Lumy inspired by a character from a Japanese anime TV show.
“There was a character on the show called Illumi and I really liked the name and wanted it for my son, but my husband told me I couldn’t name our son after a character on his show” , she said.
“We had a little disagreement, but we compromised and decided to call her Lumy, which has a Norse origin and means bringer of light.”
Delighted with the choice of the couple, the mother-to-be spoke of the first name to her family and was going to paint it on the wall of her son’s bedroom.
“I decided I wanted to have an I in her name instead of the Y. So her name was now Lumi,” she wrote.
“I’ve had his name written on the wall, on his clothes and I’ve already informed the company that will be making our birth announcements of his name.”
Then, his sister-in-law gave birth to a baby boy.
“My brother sent a photo in the family group chat and I asked what his name was, but he didn’t respond,” she said.
“Two days ago we went to visit my brother and gave him some baby clothes. When we entered their house, we saw balloons with Lumy on them.
When she confronted her brother, he said he was really sorry, but he and his wife didn’t have a name for their son because they were expecting a girl, so they used his sister’s choice.

He told his pregnant sister that “it didn’t matter” as she had “plenty of time” to come up with a new name.
“I burst into tears after he said it was no big deal. I yelled at him and his wife,” the woman rages.
“I told him nasty things, that he was no longer my brother and that he should never contact me again. I left and took the gift basket with me.
She said everyone in her family thought she overreacted and asked Redditors if she was wrong for blowing up on her brother.
“I shouldn’t have yelled at them, but it was my baby name and he just took it with no regard for his younger sister,” she added.
Her post was inundated with over 1,000 comments from users who said the woman had every right to be mad at her ‘selfish’ and ‘disrespectful’ brother and think she should use his name Nevertheless.
‘WOW. Your brother and his wife are morons. Seriously. This is just WOW,’ one commenter wrote.
“I will always name my baby as I choose. They are cousins not brothers. And if it is brought up, they can explain why. So selfish,” replied a second.
‘Don’t give in, your baby IS ALREADY NAMED. Stick to it. THEY can change THEIR baby’s name. They stole your baby’s name and they know it. If it’s no big deal, then why did your brother remain silent in the family conversation? asked a third.
In response, the mother confirmed she would “definitely” not change her son’s name despite it being his cousin’s name.
“I had already painted it on the wall and sewn his on his clothes. I am already fixed on this name. They’re just going to have to deal with it,” she said.
