How to read the Game of Thrones books in order

On Sunday evening, the final episode of the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will air. Both series are based on the iconic fantasy novels by George RR Martin, first published in 1996.

While the Game of Thrones series was based on the original series of A song of ice and fire novels, he also wrote a number of other Westeros-related works. He is currently working on The Winds of Winter, which will be the sixth in the series.

The House of the Dragon show is based on the 2018 book Fire & Bloodwhich specifically traces the history of the Targaryen family which plays such an important role in the Game of Throne series.

If you want to read the seven books that form the basis of the Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon TV series plot, here’s how you can do it in chronological order:

  1. Fire & Blood
  2. A game of thrones
  3. A Clash of Kings
  4. A storm of swords
  5. A feast for the crows
  6. A dance with dragons
  7. The Winds of Winter (estimated release date: November 2023)

Having not published a book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series since 2011, the Game of Thrones TV series has overtaken the plot of the books and the creators wrote their own ending for the fantasy series.

However, Martin confirmed that he plans to conclude the story with two more books. The Winds of Winter and A spring dream.

When will The Winds of Winter be released?

It’s been over a decade since loyal fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire books got a new installment in the series, but there’s hope its release is near. Rumors circulating online suggest that Martin is aiming for a Publication date November 2023but fans will be skeptical after such a long wait.

Writing on his blog earlier this year, Martin confirmed: “The Winds of Winter is going to be a big book.

He added that he “could be bigger than A storm of swords Where A dance with dragons, the longest books in the series to date. I usually cut and trim after I’m done, but I have to finish first.

For now, future fans will just have to watch and wait.
