Go Alpine has announced it will be moving into the next winter season under the new Steamboat Express name, but owner and CEO Landon Ogilvie said the change isn’t just about a new name.
“We are excited to take this final step by integrating Go Alpine and Steamboat region transportation services entirely in-house with our larger company, resources and systems,” Ogilvie said. “The new Steamboat Express will offer enhanced and progressive operations, and we look forward to working with and meeting the needs of all of our community partners.”
The move means the Steamboat operation will become more integrated with the Destination Systems family. This organization operates similar shuttle services in Aspen, Montrose, Telluride, Gunnison, Crested Butte, and Denver in Colorado, as well as Mammoth in California.
“It allows us to access all of the company’s resources by reassigning driver staff as needed, and it gives us the availability of additional fleets as needed,” Ogilvie said. “We feel that with the management we currently have in place, we are ready to roll out as Steamboat Express and deliver the same type of quality and service that we have offered to all other destinations in the world. over the past 10 years.”
Shuttle company Steamboat operated as Alpine Taxi in the 1980s and 1990s before becoming Go Alpine more recently. The shuttle service was purchased by Destination Systems in 2019and Ogilvie said the plan is to rebrand the business as it aligns with the other locations, which will help Steamboat Express provide better service to its customers.
“We greatly respect the business that has been built by Lisa Adamo in the past,” Ogilvie said. “But with changing times, we believe we need to add more resources for our customers.”
He said the company had also worked hard to identify and locate its fleet, which it was able to accomplish despite the most recent supply chain issues.
“We improved the fleet,” Ogilvie said. “Most of the fleet is now less than three years old, and we are upgrading the fleet with the logo.”
He said Steamboat Express has already started rolling out the logo to a few visible vehicles around town and the rebranding will become more apparent when the airport kicks into high gear in December.
Steamboat Express has also invested resources in new technologies that will improve communications and make it easier for customers to stay connected.
“We’ve invested several hundred thousand dollars in new technology for Steamboat Express that will reduce, if not eliminate, the time people wait to contact us,” Ogilvie said. “They will be able to communicate via chat, SMS or an additional phone system that allows us to redirect all incoming calls to any available reservations staff across all of our companies. In effect, we are increasing reservations staff tenfold.
Earlier this summer, Steamboat Express and its parent company Destination Systems reached an agreement with Ski Town Transportation, supporting the operator’s application to the Public Utilities Commission for a second land transport license in the region and the possibility of Pick up walk-in passengers at Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
“We’re still working out the terms of that, but I’m confident it will work out,” Ogilvie said. “He’s a great young entrepreneur, and I think we have a responsibility to the city, given the growth of the airport, to have a good qualified relief carrier… We have a sense of responsibility and we understand the responsibility we have to the community, the economic base there and we always want to do what’s best for the community.
He pointed out that Steamboat Express is ready to move into the new season when it arrives.
“We’re excited about the new season and we’re excited to show people what we have,” Ogilvie said.
