DOLE warns against repairmen using name of DOLE chief

MANILA – To protect the public interest, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has sounded the alarm against unscrupulous individuals or parties using the name of Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.

Based on information reaching the DOLE, there are attempts to solicit and demand money from unsuspecting businessmen and companies that may have issues and concerns with the Department of Labor.

It was learned that the modus was to drop the name of the head of DOLE so that the perpetrators could demand money from those who sought favorable action from the department.

One of the scammers uses the mobile number +639282935724 to reach potential victims.

“Targets are generally members of the business community who want favorable outcomes on their current or potential issues with DOLE,” said Rolly Francia, Director of Information and Publications.

Francia said the Department of Labor strongly condemns these nefarious acts which tend to shine a light on the DOLE and destroy the good name of the Secretary of Labor.

The department also urged the public to report such illegal and unlawful activities to the nearest DOLE regional offices or call DOLE hotline 1349.

Upon taking office, Laguesma pledged to protect DOLE from bribery and corruption by ensuring transactions in his department are conducted honestly and transparently.

“Under my direction, there will be no fixers for favors at the DOLE. No amount of money could change this policy,” he added. (ALMS)
