The LADO National Folk Dance Ensemble is Croatia’s most successful cultural export product.

The ensemble, which travels the world to promote Croatian culture, consists of more than 40 dancers who also sing while they perform, and a group of 14 high-level musicians who play traditional and classical instruments. This year LADO celebrates 72 years of existence during which they have performed in Croatia and around the world more than 5,000 times for which they have won numerous awards.

Creation of disguises

The long and arduous process of making outfits was once reserved for women and began in the fields with the cultivation of fibers. It took a lot of knowledge and time to make the final products, mainly from flax and hemp, which were used to make yarn than that used in the weaving process to produce fabrics for making clothes.

The process did not stop there. In the final and most impressive stage of production – the decoration – the creativity of the manufacturers shines through in every detail. There are many weaving and decorating techniques associated with every part of Croatia.
